报告主要内容:As in the circulatory system in mammals, the plant vasculature transports nutrients (e.g., carbohydrates, minerals, amino acids and proteins) and information molecules (e.g., hormones, small RNAs and small peptides). Dr. Zhang has been using molecular, genomic, and physiological approaches to explore how vascular tissue is involved in plant responses to photoperiod, mineral deficiencies, drought, and heat stress. He will discuss his recent findings on the shoot-to-root movement of mRNAs and the possible mechanisms associated with the long distance traffic, cell specific molecular responses to low minerals, and establishing Plantago major as a model plant for mineral stress physiology studies. Understanding basic physiological process has important implications that pertain to implementing strategies for crop improvement. A few examples will be used to demonstrate how translational studies can be conducted based on discoveries derived from basic physiological explorations.

报告人简介:Cankui Zhang现任美国普渡大学农学院助理教授,博士生导师。主要从事源库调控改善作物生长和产量,以及矿物质营养转运与作物生理响应机制方面的研究。从分子层面展示了光合同化物的运输机理,通过实验方法证明植物韧皮部装载的聚合物陷阱模型扩散装载方式,相关成果已在PNASPlant Physiology钱柜娱乐官方网站等国际知名杂志发表,且均被编入广为应用的植物生理学教材。
